Jermain Taylor by no doubt is Fighter of the Year 2005...
Let me tell you why, Taylor has been winning good fights in a steak and is a undefeated undisputed champion right now.
When he beat Alfredo Cuevas, he started getting my attention, he beat him and won every round, people started noticing what jermain taylor is... a good fighter.
Then his wins against other good prospects Alex Rios (TKO 1) & Alex Bunema (TKO 7) most people starting recognising him as a good fighter...
After all of this, When he beat 2 RESPECTED CONTENDERS who were at top 10 rankings, Raul Marquez (TKO 9) and William Joppy (UD) he got a lot of respect for his overall accomplishments, although some people said both of them were at the end of their careers.
After all of this the YEAR 2005 started with Taylor looking fresh...and this is the main reason why he is the fighter of the year 2005..
His next fight was with a highly ranked Undefeated contender Daniel Edouard (16-0 at that time),Taylor took this fight to convince people that the fighters he fought before were at the end of the career, but taylor could do the same damage to any other fighter who gave him a chance and took the fight..some people predicted Edoard would win this one because he looked really good in his last fight and won the USBA Belt just in round 4, against another undefeated prospect at that time (Gibbs), Daniel has only 1 loss right now and that is too taylor, With this win Taylor earned a title bout against Bernard Hopkins, Taylor before also had been touted by many as the Heir apparent to Bernard Hopkins throne...
Jermain Taylor beat Bernard Hopkins in a close fight, some people said it was a robbery, but it was a very close fight which Taylor won, and finally the dream was true, Taylor was the Undisputed Middleweight Champion at the Age of 27.
Taylor gave Hopkins a rematch which was billed "No Respect" because Taylor said "I have no respect for the man" and "he is a dirty fighter"... This time Taylor won by Unianimous Decision, all judges scoring 115-113 in favour of taylor, and majority of the people thought taylor won.
Although the fights were close, Taylor had won them.
Taylor said:
"I give myself a B this time," Taylor said. "I won't give myself an A because I didn't knock him out. But I still won it and I'm taking the belts back to Arkansas."
"The difference in this fight is that Bernard respected me a little more," Taylor said. "I came out in this fight determined to win. Taking nothing away from Bernard Hopkins, the man is an excellent fighter."
This showed he still respects Hopkins and Hopkins still respects him, he may be nick named "Bad Intentions" but he has the very best Intentions against his opponent and outside the ring.
