Comments Thread For: Pavlik Has a Few Days To Decide if He Will Face Stevenson

Super middleweight Adonis Stevenson is having a hard time securing an opponent for an IBF title eliminator. To date, Edwin Rodriguez, Thomas Oosthuizen and James Degale have turned down the opportunity to face Stevenson. The IBF is going down the line and the sanctioning body has offered former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik the opportunity to faces Stevenson.

What Kind of eliminator is it? Like a final or a semifinal?
Depending on the fight date, Pavlik should take it.

Stevenson is already the leading contender in the IBF rankings so this should be a final eliminator (especially taking into account that it is the IBF).

Stevenson is a good fighter, a strong, powerful, and explosive southpaw, but Pavlik would have a solid shot at winning against him. And a Froch-Pavlik fight afterward would be a surefire FOTY candidate. Top Rank is keeping Pavlik busy and slowly advancing his opposition, but 2 fights after his layoff with months training in Oxnard, this might be in the cards for him.

This seems like a good plan for Pavlik. If he doesn't get cut or anything on Friday seems like a no brainer if the purse is decent enough [yes the money does have to be somewhat right].

            True.
I hope he considers taking it though. That'll be two fights now that he got to try out his training with Garcia. I hope he's ready for a step up in competition and his first good opponent at 168.

Final eliminator for Froch's title. Froch must negotiate mandatory with winner as of Dec 30th. Pavlik should stay away from Stevenson though. Pretty sure he will. Remember Showtime owes a fight to Bute and Pavlik being American is a huge plus for him

Pavlik won't budge on Stevenson until Bute's next opponent is set. There's too much Showtime money involved. The only obstacle i see in his way is Andre Dirrell

Pavlik should stay away from this fight, even if he wins, he'll have to go to UK to fight Froch, he should get down to 160, if not he needs to gradually increase the competition (Stevenson is green, but he has Manny in his corner). Pavlik doesn't have as much power at 168, so he will be hard pressed to win many fights at the higher weight.

would be a great fight to gauge where he is...he'd be two fights in his comeback, he'd have his timing back and all the rust will be gone.....should be put up or shut up. He beats Stevenson go for broke, go for a belt. He aint no spring chicken anymore
