Quartey had a very short prime that many of you may not have caught.
He looked awesome from the time he beat Crisanto Espana to the time he beat Vince Phillips. I think the Phillips fight made him a player, & the bigger paydays softened him up. He stopped fighting as frequently as he was doing, & started fighting with less confidence & aggression. The fighter he was between Espana & Phillips was a two-fisted ****er....strong as hell, & with a great variety of power shots. He stood in the pocket, slipped under shots & fired back beautifully.
He turned into a reluctant, standing-straight up, one-shot-at-a-time fighter.....who just blocked punches & didn't throw until the foe was done throwing himself. To me, he was a massive disappointment.

Back in '95-'96, I'd have picked him to beat Trinidad, even though I was also a Tito-jocker then. Ike seemed impossible to budge in those days, & seemed so much physically stronger than Trinidad...even though Trinidad was always an awesome offensive force.

I think Ike at his best, beats the best 147lb version of Trinidad.
But, Trinidad is the greater fighter, no doubt. He was excellent over a very long time, while Ike burned out too quickly.

        It's only a few....
But, he looked incredible against both Espana & Phillips- two very tough opponents.

Quartey on the cards, very under-rated and under-appreciated fighter.

Ike is one of my favorites of the last 10 years. He's one of those fighters who showed flashes of invincibility in his career but came up short, much like the Donald Currys and Meldrick Taylors before him.

Quartey has to be one of the physically strongest 147 pounders ever, and he definitely has one of the best jabs that weight has ever seen. I used to never get tired of watching him push his opponents around the ring with that jackhammer jab of his.

Both fighters at their very best? Quartey takes out Trinidad late.

Tito by late KO. Out of the 2 Tito had more stamina Ike had better skills. Does anyone recall the Jose Luis Lopez -vs- Ike fight. Lopez basically had Ike out on his feet late, Ike ran out of gas late in most of his fights, His boxing ability and bazooka jab were excellent and would keep Tito at bay for a good 6-7 rds, but he also like to exchange and ran out of gas late, were Tito wouldt not stop going after his opponents for a whole 12 rds. This fight was actually going to happen but Ike opted to fight DLH for obvious reasons $$$. Ike's physical strengh over Tito means nothing..who isnt physically stronger than Tito?..

Going by what I saw in the DLH fight Im going to have to say Trinidad by KO. DLH managed to catch Ike with several hooks and if Trinidad did that he would be asleep.

That was not Ike at his best. He was significantly less hungry, & far rustier in '99 than he was in '96.

I know....he should have been able to sustain his excellence.
But, I'm matching these two up at their absolute best, & I think Ike would have beaten Trindad.
