Comments Thread For: Shumenov Says Goal is to Capture all of The Titles at 175

Beibut Shumenov wants to unify at least two of the so-called world light-heavyweight titles.

But to do so, the man from Kazakhstan has to retain his WBA title when he fights Enrique Ornelas, a Mexican, in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

I've not seen Shumenov fight, how do people think he'd fare against Cleverly?

I'd favor Shumenov in a Shumenov-Cleverly showdown, but only slightly, because I think he'll be slightly more effective.

The styles dictate that it would be an inside fighting give and take type of fight. Shumenov's high guard defense favors Cleverly high volume offense, but Cleverly's leaky inside defense (he tries to shoulder roll and put up a high guard, but neither seem to too good) will leave him open to Shumenov's flashy and more powerful combos.

Gabriel Campillo is the real WBA Champion though; he is unofficially the unified WBA/IBF Champion.

Chad Dawson would viciously **** this fruit. Might be a good fight with Cloud considering he got destroyed in his last fight against Campillo.

Shumenov talks about unifying but has defended against nothing but cupcakes for two years, and he's fighting another one this weekend. Rematch Campillo and actually beat him this time. Then we can talk about unifying.

Start with Cleverly then - he'll take it.
