Out of the 2 fights I have seen of Vanes, I wasn't very impressed with him. And his resume is even less impressive. Kirkland is much more deserving of a title fight than Vanes, with his win over Angulo he should have gotten a title shot right after that fight. This is a good fight honestly. Canelo vs Williams and Canelo vs Kirkland are both A1, and A2 fights. You couldn't go wrong with either but obviously Williams was the more dangerous fight with higher risk.

If Canelo beats Kirkland, which I expect him to. I think it's time for the fight he's always wanted, against Floyd. If not, then I guess a Cotto fight would be very good also. Coming off wins against Kirkland and Cotto would give a massive boost to the interest in a Mayweather-Canelo fight. But neither fight will be easy. I think Lara should get the fight after Kirkland, not Cotto. But GBP/WBC won't let that happen I think. They want the whole Puerto Rico vs Mexico thing with Canelo vs Cotto.

he should fight Cotto IMO higher risk but also higher reward and the PPV would sell...

honestly i don't see how kirkland vs canelo is PPV worthy at all

After Kirkland in September, if Canelo wins, I'd like to see him fight another Top 10 SWW in December. Someone like Bundrage, Lara (though that's fairly unrealistic to think it'll happen), Trout/Rodriguez, Rosado/Powell winner, etc.

Than, fight a big fight with Cotto in May/June 2013. Than, fight Floyd Mayweather. If he beat say Kirkland, Trout, and Cotto, a Floyd fight would be huge.

Kirkland deserves the fight, he beat Angulo in the eliminator. Vanes didn't outright reject the fight with Lara he just wanted to be assured in writing that it was indeed an elimination bout, and considering how corrupted the sanctioning bodies are I don't blame him. I believe that even though the Kirkland Angulo fight was an eliminator the only reason it was honored was because of Kirklands lack luster fight with Molina and him coming off an injury, other than that he would still be waiting. Unfortunately the sanctioning bodies have become a joke.

Not sure where Vanes is getting his info. Haven't heard too much buzz about he and Canelo.

If you want to talk about WBC providing justice, a more interesting question is why is Vanes ranked ahead of Kirkland for beating a shot Saul Roman when Kirkland beat Alfredo Angulo? And lets not forget that Vanes ducked the Angulo eliminator that Kirkland took. Kirkland also beat Carlos Molina in another eliminator, albeit on a technicality. What exactly has Vanes done to be ahead of Kirkland? That being said, yes, it's awfully convenient that Kirkland NOW is the mandatory after Canelo decided to pick him as his next opponent.

Anyway, looking at the latest rankings, Lara is now #1 and Vanes has been moved down to #3.

I lost all respect for Vanes when he totally ducked Angulo.

The WBC is all about sanctioning fees and protecting certain fighters, but the funny thing is i think Canelo can beat Mandingo and the Nightmare so why even try to protect him.

I guess they percieve that this is the best chance to get rid of a mandatory especially if he isn't 100%.

The WBC is such a crooked organization
are you already making excuses for El Mandingo already? I'm sure if Canelo beats Kirkland, all the Canelo haters will come here and start crying about how El Mandingo was not ready, shoulder still hurt, too soon... Blah blah blah.

I'm sure Kirkland wants this too. If he felt he wasn't ready for this, he would have turned it down.
