The timing and accuracy of Mayweather's punches is what does it.

At 147 he doesn't hit as hard as other guy's, but he lands better punches. He has pin-point accuracy and very quick punches that all have snap on them. When you're braced they may not be overly damaging, but they mount up and when one of them lands perfectly as a counter or when the opponent walks onto one, the power is very much there.

This. Placement > Power. People with a lot of power that aren't hitting the right spots often have to rely on swinging for the fences to hurt their opponent or their opponent simply wearing down and submitting to their power.

Good to see I ain't the only person who thinks he has more power than people think. But I do agree placement means a lot.

Doesnt floyd get enough credit for his boxing abilities and defense or something so his punch power needs to be discussed now?

He dont hit like a girl thats for sure, but there are many people who hit harder. Many people who hit harder, not just Pac and SMM etc etc. Floyd dont care about power, so long as the fist part of his glove makes contact with you and hope and preys the judges register it as a punch landed, even if the opponent found the punch ticklish, it dont matter to floyd.

What is the point of this thread really as if there isnt enough threads about Floyd.?

I could go on and on but my point is Cotto has proven without a doubt he has a major chin because alot of those shots he was taking were clean shots.

So now we come to the Mayweather fight, which in my opinion he showcased better defense than he ever has in that fight and wasn't taking as many clean shots as he normally does, and Mayweather still was able to stager him with one punch and almost put him down for the count. Also in the Mosley fight it was times where he hit Mosley with enough force to physically push him back and make him get weary of throwing. Thinking on all this I came to the conclusion that Mayweather hits much harder than most people give him credit for. What do you guys think?
Nah. It's more the case of Cotto getting hit with shots that he didn't see coming against guys like Mayweather and Pacquiao. He resisted damage better versus Mosley and Margarito because he could see everything they were throwing.

I respect all of Floyd skills it's not a power competition true, but in boxing power does matter and if Floyd didn't care he wouldn't train so hard. But the real question is if it's no point to the thread why are you on it?

Valid point, but some of those shots he got hit with he could see and he was still getting rocked. But yes I agree what you can't see does hurt the most.

if you look at floyds fights a lot of people say he has sneaky power... when he is moving and pot shooting his punch aint all dat but when he wants ta put a good one in he has a good punch... notice how he is able to make fighters think about coming in... my son fights amateur I tell him keep it quick and mix in the good hard **** that is what floyd does
