in his physical prime he had great defense, before he started to age and he had to adjust his style.

Now he gets hit pretty often but aside from his lack of speed and feet.
He still has pretty good defense, specially when he's actually trying to box and isn't trying to trade like Diaz and Katsids etc

He's got a solid defence but is still fairly hittable. When he's focused on evading punches he can do so very well, as he did in the Pac 3 fight, but when he's going forward he leaves himself open due to the wide and loopy way he throws his power shots. Beyond that, he's got great footwork and ring generalship. He maintains good distance at all times when he's not attacking, and is adept at moving his body away from shots just enough to come back with a sharp counter.
