If B-Hop is such a great champ, and he was gonna earn his title back...why didnt he just simply KO taylor? Because he is too old, and over the hill. He was relying on the judges giving it to him. A champion will go out and take it. Hop = has been. like it or not.
B-hop puss....

Does "walking the walk" have a sub-category of "clinching like a black 160-lb John Ruiz"?
If so , he walked that walk like a sumbitch.Comment

B-Hop is 40yrs old..Taylor is in his prime. Taylor is nothing..He couldnt last 5 rds with the any of the top middleweights of the past including a prime B-hop.Comment

I'm not a Hopkins fan, but I'll tell it like it is bro......Originally posted by gdblstxIf B-Hop is such a great champ, and he was gonna earn his title back...why didnt he just simply KO taylor? After 20 title defenses he lost the first fight because one judge 'some how' gave Taylor the 12th round. That was bull**** and cost Hopkins a draw.
The old man lost the second fight, no shame there. It happens to them all eventually. Hopkins put up two respectable fights back - to - back against the media darling who was half his age.
What more do you want from your Champions??Comment

This is true, but at the end of the day Hopkins took a similar road to Roy Jones in that he didnt fight top quality opposition - he chose smaller guys that could earn him big bucks. No shame there like you say but not the credentials to put him on the pantheon with the greatsComment

I disagree. Sure, his biggest wins are against Tito and Oscar, no one can dispute that. But he fought EVERY top MIDDLEWEIGHT contender during his reign. Roy Jones did NOT fight every top contender in his weight classes during his prime. Yes, Hopkins had the "advantage" of staying in one weight class, whereas Jones could be seen as a ducker by moving up through 4 weight classes. But nevertheless, who DIDN'T Hopkins beat at 160 after Jones left the division? The Echols, Allens, Eastmans and Joppys of the world weren't exactly world beaters, but they were tough competition.Originally posted by myunksafiedThis is true, but at the end of the day Hopkins took a similar road to Roy Jones in that he didnt fight top quality opposition - he chose smaller guys that could earn him big bucks. Also, don't minimize the Tito win...sure, he was a welter moving up, but he did RUIN Joppy, a legit middleweight. He was unbeaten (technically, of course), and was the biggest star in boxing this side of Tyson and De La Hoya.
Hopkins can't help that this era of middleweights weren't world class, he beat whoever was put in front of him for over a decade, and arguably beat Taylor, the so-called next big thing at middleweight, at least once and possibly twice.
They both fought their ridiculous mandatories, yes, but Hopkins fought everybody else in his class that posed a threat (at least seemingly), and two of those guys were big stars moving up--that isn't his fault.
His decision to give Taylor a shot is very admirable, especially when he was at the end of his career and could have waited to fight Roy Jones once more or moved up to take on Tarver or Calzaghe. He also could have just made another mandatory against Sam Soliman, but Taylor was the bigger threat, and he chose that challenge. He succeeded--at least in the eyes of 85% of boxing people--and then, when forced to a (postponed) rematch, fought even better (Taylor fought better, too) and could have earned a decision but did not.
Great career, just not given the chance to beat too many legit middleweight stars...Comment
