Richard Schaefer, back up your talk and give us meaningful 147 fights this summer!

"We don't believe in making interim-fights where a couple of fights lead to two guys eventually meeting each other. We don't believe in tune-up fights. Lets go directly to the big fights. While in the old days, they would say that you can't put two young prospects in [with each other], you have to maybe [put them in] down the road. [I say] no, let them fight and let the better man win."

    Richard Schaefer, May 13, 2012

Right now, Golden Boy has Amir Khan, Victor Ortiz, and Devon Alexander all at 147 and all looking for a summer opponent. Two of which had big fights lined up aleady. What the **** is this Josesito Lopez bull****? or Maidana coming off a terrible, sluggish loss in his debut at 147?

The big fights are here to be made. After a so many disappoints already this Spring, i'd like it if Richard Schaefer would back up his talk and MAKE SOME FIGHTS WORTH WATCHING THIS SUMMER.

All I got to say, gentlemen.

alot of time the problem here on nsb is people that are misinformed that dont keep up with the news and instead make ****** threads......

if you kept up with the news you would know:

-amir khan has a contract with hbo
-ortiz has a contract with showtime
-maidana says he couldnt be ready to fill in for ortiz or khan on july 7th

last i check richard shaefer didnt drug berto or peterson so i dont see how he is to blame, he's trying to make the fights....... maybe you should tell the fighters to stop being so ignorant when it comes to testing

Also, doesn't Alexander have a contract with Showtime to fight in August? I could've sworn I read a Malignaggi-Alexander fight is almost done. That's a good fight, IMO.

I can't really blame Golden Boy for the Ortiz-Lopez fight. Showtime really wanted to continue with the card and they found a solid opponent on 5 weeks notice. Lopez is very durable and he always comes to win. He damn near upset Vargas and has a solid win over Mike Dallas Jr.

Now we just wait and see what Golden Boy can come up with for Khan's next fight. I really hope they get Danny Garcia to step up. It'd be a good fight.

Can't put everything on Rich though. He's a promoter, not god. What exactly can he do after two pretty good match ups involving GBP fighters fell through because of the GBP fighter's opponents? He can't do anything but find a quick replacement. If it was the GBP fighters who were caught juicing, that's a different story. Schafer has done just about everything he can so far in his promoting career. Can't fault him.

Thank you for saying that. I read what Schaefer said and was thinking the same thing. Both Khan and Ortiz have been begging for a shot at Mayweather. Here was a perfect opportunity to match them into each other, with the winner looking like a good opponent for Floyd's next fight. Instead Khan is fighting a 140 lb fighter with no tittle or reputation and Ortiz is fighting a nobody as well. Ortiz wanted to fight Khan but either Schaefer or Khan's team did not want to risk their weak chined money maker against the hard hitting Ortiz. I think Alexander would gladly fight either Ortiz or Khan but Shaefer never attempted to make either of those fights. A win over Alexander would also be a plus for them to get a shot at Floyd. Richard, you are full of BS. Khan, if you want to fight Floyd why are you wasting time at 140? Beat a top welterweight, if you can, and show the world you deserve the fight. That is what the big talking Guerrero is trying to do. Follow his lead.

Schaefer really knows very little about the boxing mechanics of matchmaking and the maximizing of the income. He's a banker, not a promoter. He has never been able to promise even a quarter of all the fine, uplifting deeds that Golden alls will be the crusader for.
