Comments Thread For: Kessler Sends a Left Hand Message To Light Heavies

Showing both the determination evident in his 2010 win over Carl Froch, and the punching power that has marked him as one of the world’s best Super Middleweights for most of a decade, 33-year old former unified Super Middleweight titlist Mikkel Kessler (45-2, 34 KO) of Copenhagen, Denmark, survived a first round knockdown to decimate 32-year old Allan Green (31-4, 21 KO) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a single left hook in round four on Saturday night in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Parken in Copenhagen, Denmark.

I thought Kessler was slower than usual. I don't know if it was because he wanted to max his power or maybe he was rusty which would be understandable.

The finish was brutal and perfect. Kessler jabbed Greens right guard and moved half a step closer than he'd done in the earlier rounds, before unleashing the wicked left hook. What was a bit surprising was that it was the hook that did the damage for the dane. Normally he's thought of as a right hand puncher.

The KD Green scored, was the first suffered by Kessler in his professional career. It was the lone bright spot for Green who has to think long before continuing his career.

A drunk and patriotic crowd of 15,000 was in attendance. It was hoped that 8-10,000 would show, but Kessler showed that he is still a major draw.

they were showing the Chelsea Bayern game on the big screens

What does this have to do with Denmark?

DENMARK got the highest population of Bayern Munich fans outside of Germany according to UK Sports report

      After Bayern Lost

Kessler had to give the fans something to cheer about

      and he did

The danes love football as much as anybody. Had they not shown the final, it would have had a major impact on the attendance.

I don't know about the Bayern statistik though. I reckon most danes prefer the brits over the germans.

Coming from Kessler that left hook smash carried some extra meaning. Recovering from the KD made it even more significant. It's one of Mikkel's best performances in so many ways. Enjoyed it.

I honestly think boxing could easily overtake Basketball as Europe's 2nd biggest sport.

Obviously nothing is taking over football (soccer) on a worldwide stage, that's just too deeply rooted. But the #2 sport around the world is wide open in terms of appeal.

Basketball for now is the distance #2 as a world sport but I feel overall in Europe boxing easily have more appeal then basketball

In america NFL is #1, NBA is #2. But nobody outside of the states count NFL as a real sport. (they shouldn't)

I think the days of boxing in America is now gone, it will be shocking to see boxing be more popular then the NBA in America these days

Dawson may end up fighting Kessler next if the Ward fight doesn't fall through. Kessler is the WBC mandatory.

i would say hockey is the second biggest sport in europe. its a small sport in plenty of countrys but its also huge in plenty of countries. even handball could be bigger than basketball acctually.

american football is very much a real sport, how is it not? im not american and its one of my favourite sports. regardless of what you and i think its simply huge in the states, the super bowl is the biggest sporting event in the world most years so you have to recognize it as a real sport. i would say baseball is bigger than basketball in the states too.

boxing isnt as big in the states as it used to be but it aint going away. las vegas is the boxing capital of the world and the US is still where the best fighters in the world compete, that wont change anytime soon.
