Comments Thread For: Quintana is Still Pushing To Secure Canelo Alvarez Clash

Former welterweight champion Carlos "El Indio" Quintana appeared on the latest edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene's official audio show. The interview can be heard by clicking here: http://tobtr.com/s/3137153

Shortly after his May 5th upset win over Deandre Latimore, Quintana advised BoxingScene.com that he wants to face WBC champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (40-0-1, 29KOs) on September 15th. James Kirkland was the front runner to face Alvarez but it has been reported that he likely won't be far enough along in his rehab from shoulder surgery to be ready for the September date.

I give credit to Quintana...but not enough credit to merit a Title opportunity. Not that he is really getting one... it would be more like Canelo getting an easy defense that will be approved by HBO and will present little danger to his "championship".

After all... Canelo needs a break from the hard competition he has face as of late... can anyone name another champion that has faced the likes of Hatton (bro), Gomez, Cintron and Mosley .... all of them class A tomatoe cans.

Quintana will be another million dollar sparing session.... their is a slight chance of an upset, but it seems that if you are not 5-1 favorite, then whats the point of risking your paper title.

Canelo has potentiontial and is an exciting young fighter... but it's time to step it up and show is what he can do against a dangerous young hungry fighter...

Canelo vs Quintana... it a forgetable fight that will cause him more critizicism than any upside.

I agree with the fact that he should fight other young hungry fighters. I think him facing the winner of Ortiz/Berto would be a great fight. Paul Williams is probably going to to be their next opponent. He seemed shaky even against Ishida but was constantly scoring points just for being the busier fighter. It absolutely sickens me how GBP is cherry picking this "champions" opponents. I do think Canelo is a brilliant boxer with devastating power, but I've never seen him have to bite down and struggle against someone who could dish out the same as him.

              NO Way!

Quintana gets his ass put to sleep with in 3 rounds, he will end up just like Cintron but much easier to handle. Canelo vs Cotto is what I want to see go down.

Quintana isn't physically strong enough to handle Canelo he'll get beaten and broken-down by the mid rounds and stopped

its not a bad fight, but I would rather test canelo against Kirkland or Cotto at this point.
