Comments Thread For: CompuBox Plus/Minus Ratings: Mayweather, Canelo Up

Floyd Mayweather Jr. lands just 26% vs. Miguel Cotto, slips to a +25, but still tops the list. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez lands 52% vs. Shane Mosley, moves to #2 with a +18 rating. The CompuBox average is 32% based on numbers in CompuBox's 4800-plus fights in database as of 5/11/12. Plus/minus ratings are determined by subtracting opponent’s connect pct. from listed fighter’s overall connect pct., which includes jab connect pct. & power punch connect pct.

Compubox is the new marketing tool to help cover up risks and robberies.

Then you've wasted your time 24 times.

Either you don't know what to look for or you're blind. Compubox is mostly correct and their error margin is close to 1-10% not 50-100% as some of you claim.

I too counted 8 punches landed by Cotto. Maybe 9-10 but I need more angles to determine that. 19 punches landed is so ****ing absurd that I laughed at your post. You can't be serious.

How can you determine an error margin, when it is down to human error. That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard.

There have been many cases in the past where compubox has been proved wildly inaccurate. At the end of the day I do not expect a person to be able to determine whether a punch has landed in real time any better than you and me, it is extremely difficult. Someone has posted a video on the Internet of round 3 in this fight, and slowed down the action so you can clearly see the punches land or not, and it is clear Cotto has outlanded Mayweather in this round. I am not saying the right man didn't win, clearly floyd outlanded Cotto, and won the fight. But you have to take the numbers with a pinch of salt, and quite frankly I think it is silly how much emphasis HBO put on the numbers.

              I prefer Showtime.

probably not as hard as i laughed at your james toney 43 and fat pic by your name...

a landed punch does not have to be 100% clean ..

it can be 50% deflected and effective as a counted punch...

rewatch round six and rewind numerous times where cotto lands those shots to the body.....

i dont have the time to give you the time on each landed punch...

Compubox is entirely wrong, but still a fun concept.

The problem is, along with 'human error', is that they dont have a real criteria on what constitutes a landed punch. ie A number of punches actually do end up grazing Mayweather's head, but theyre definitely not solid connects and not counted. Also punches in a clinch dont seem to be counted.

Dont judge a fight based on number of punches landed. Judge rounds based on who does the most damage.

Prime Roy Jones has the best + - all time so it's all good. That said, there's a ton of fighters that are not on that list that should be.

Vitali Klitschko is one of them. He has a great + - in his last 9.
