Lets All Pay Homage to Hopkins

I picked Taylor to win the 1st and 2nd fight but I have always been a big Hopkins fan. I still think he will have "atleast" 1 more fight but lets give the man some respect just in case.

The reason I made this thread is because I was just watching him talk to Brian Kenny on ESPN News and the truth is, I love the guy. I mean its a sad time in boxing because a Era is coming to a end for alot of great fighters like Jones, Oscar, Shane, Tyson, Lewis, etc etc, and other fighters wont be fighting much longer like Toney, Tarver, Morales, MAB, and such but Hopkins has always been kind of different.

The guy is all street and he has a different kind of hold on the fans and too see him kind of humble after the fight was different, even though I got the sense that he wanted to complain like the 1st time but he didnt want anyone to call him a cry baby so he backed off.

The fact is that he is a HOF, one of the best ever, and he was great inside the ring and outside as far as talking goes and is still a great figter at the age of nearly 41. We will never see another Hopkins

I'll add some things in appreciation of one of better middleweights to come along in the sport of boxing.

At almost 41 years of age, he put on an amazing performance tonight and poured his heart out trying to win this fight. I mean, (as much as i still got love for him) look at the Roy Jones fight this year, he didn't fight half the fight Bernard put on tonight (twice this year now).

He will go down in history as still, one of the best to ever lace up gloves and keep a record of consecutive title defenses that will not soon be broken. Whether you love him or you hate him, you have to respect his skills and talent in the ring. Thanks for the years, Bernard. One love.

But for 40 years old he did damned good. I thought he was going to tire out but he seemed to be in better shape this time around. He did very good and I don't know any other 40 year olds that could have done as good as he did.

Bernard Hopkins is one of the top three middleweights of all time and he didn't have to give Taylor his shot at the title but he did like the true champion he is.

Bernard Hopkins true greatness will be apprecited in time.

Sure. I only gave you bad karma because I saw that you said you weren't going to follow through with your bet but then later on I saw that you were joking. It was too late though as I had already done it.

Yeah, I still can't believe he lost, inspite of the fact that he's almost 41. He's in such good condition he could probably hang on for another year or two beating "good" fighters and still leave a great legacy behind him. Taylor will never amount to a quarter of what Hopkins has been. Guess I was wrong in my prediction, but it won't make me any less of a fan, It'll be a long time before we see anything like Hopkins again.

I disagree. I wouldn't class him anywhere near the top three.

For my part, I rate as him a Chavez-like champion. His challengers weren't great, he had one remarkable performance against Tito (a lighter man moving up), and doesn't rank among the great middleweights. You can argue pro and con whether he won the fight, but the fact remains that Bernard's pertormances have been clinical and uninspired of late, and he was due to have such nights when they didn't break right. He didn't get the shaft, he got the short end of the stick.

Hopkins had a great career I'm taking nothing away from him. But he's nowhere near the top 3 in my books.
