FYI: floyd and manny have no common opponents!

Think about it. manny fought hatton 2 years after floyd, was that really the same fighter ? manny fought de la hoya 3 years after floyd at a different weight. is that the same de la hoya ? floyd fought marquez years after his 2nd fight with manny at a differnt weight. was that the same marquez ? the mosley time line was pretty close but mosley was too far past prime to get an accurate judgement. lastly floyd fought cotto 3 years after manny at a different weight. was this really the same cotto ?

point is we cant judge their performance against eachother based on common opponents because there really isnt one. both fighters have faced the same guys at differnt years, differnt weights, different points of prime and different circumstances. if they fought the same guy the same year at the same age with that opponent also in his prime then we could reasonably determine "something" . the only thing we do know is styles make fights and until they face eachother know one knows jack ****.

lets look at one quick example: buster douglas. before he fought tyson he looked like a straight bum. when the tyson fight came he trained the hardest he ever trained in his life. his mother died and he was a man on a mission. on that night he fought an amazing fight and probally could have beat anyone in the division on that night. his next fight he came in fat, bloated and again looked like ****. he got knocked out in 3 rounds and the rest is history.

moral of the story is the only common opponent is the fighter on fight night so untill these 2 p*ssys get in the ring with each other PLEASE stop all the "who beat who better" ****

what does everyone else think ?

I think fighting common opponents gives you some idea where they rate against each other as long as you don't get carried away with it. You must keep all the points you talked about in mind. The Buster Douglas example was perfect. He never was anywhere near that good before or after the Tyson fight. A real one hit wonder.
