Hopkins exposed Dawson's weak left hand which is why Dawson had a hard time connecting on Hopkins. Because Hopkins was open to the left cross the whole night, and Dawson rarely threw it.
It's not to say Dawson doesn't have a good left hand, he's shown it in the past that he can throw the straight left with regularity when he was with Floyd Sr and Eddie Muhammad. It's something Scully needs to work on with Dawson. I know Steward emphasizes on a strong cross punch.
