As great as Bernard Hopkins is.......

I've never liked Hopkins, once he said "I'll never lose to a White Boy" that was it for me, that's unacceptable in this day and age. He's constantly trying to foul and milks non-fouls, his biggest strength is his mental game and I respect it immensely as well as his discipline but overall boxing will not miss him as an active fighter.Comment

That was not a domination at all though Dawson clearly won. He is a sore loser though but that's nothing new...Comment

it's hard for a lot of guys to admit defeat, especially if they don't get beat up and feel it was close. but at least all of hopkins fights that he's complained about were all very close, this one being the most clear loss. Hell, glen johnson would complain after losing almost every round of a fight.Comment

No one comes close to matching Glen Johnson in the complaining department.it's hard for a lot of guys to admit defeat, especially if they don't get beat up and feel it was close. but at least all of hopkins fights that he's complained about were all very close, this one being the most clear loss. Hopkins did lose, at damn near 50 fighting a man 18 years his jr. But he wasn't dominated. In fact Hopkins landed the more damaging blows. Yes he is a sore loser. But there are many of those in boxing. Hopkins is a very competitive guy. I wouldn't expect him to be happy in defeat.Comment

Hopkins will never be dominated. He may be shut out, but not dominated. His defensive style doesn't allow for that. He will smother punches and clinch to avoid combinations against him. It's ugly, but it nullifies taking punishment. So people always look ugly against him, especially when they win, because they would have engaged him more right into the style I mentioned.
I saw and scored this fight with the viewpoint of which fighter could make the other fight his fight. Early on, Hopkins had Dawson angry, upset at the rough tactics used by Hopkins. This took Dawson out of his element and allowed for Hopkins to land more effectively. Rounds to Hopkins there.
However, Dawson soon composed himself and did not allow the rough house tactics to sink in anymore. From that point on, he was able to dictate the pace, for the most part, of the fight and take Hopkins out of his gameplan. Dawson began to come forward with controlled aggression and Hopkins had a difficult time adjusting to that.
It's pretty much that simple. What did Dawson do to win, asked Hopkins? Dawson was typically the first and last one to attack in the great majority of exchanges. Later in the fight, Dawson also didn't stay inside too long to allow Hopkins to get off. This is why he won. Not very difficult to judge this one at all.Comment
