This was a made up controversy by the head of the UT Board of Regents. One assessment by one department is not enough of a reason to cancel an event that would bring the city of El Paso millions of dollars in revenue. It was an ignorant and paranoid decision. El Paso is consistently rated in the top 3 safest cities in America with a population over 500,000.I lived there a few years and always felt safe. For the incompetent Dept of Homeland Security to suggest that the two leaders of the Juarez and Sinaloa drug cartels would actually attend the fight is crazy. El Paso has the highest % of DEA, FBI, Customs & Border Patrol, plus the local law enforcement agencies in the country comparable to its size. It has an intelligence center that is made up of DEA, CIA, FBI, Customs, Dept of Defense, ATF, Tx DPS,its the most advanced, highly securitized centers in the country and its the base where the US fights the drug war in Latin America. For The UT Regent Chancellor to suggest that the heads of Juarez and Sinaloa drug cartels would risk going into such a city crawlling with Feds, just to watch a fight is ridiculous on its face.

Plus the fact that Mexico worships its boxers. The cartels will kill, kidnap, intimidate, soccer players, baseball players, etc., but they do not do such things to the countries boxers. They will cause shootings at soccer matches, baseball games, but will and have never done such things at any boxing event. The cartel's love boxing too much and avg Mexican love boxing too much to do it any harm. Actually they are the only group in MX that is untouchable, avg people, law enforcement, military, politicians are all fair game for murdering, but boxers are immune from such threats. I am just glad the fight is back on in El Paso, its the best boxing town in TX and one of the best fight towns outside of Vegas.

As for the ****** stipulations the UT Chancellor added such as no alcohol, is just his way to save face, he knows he was completely out of line for cancelling the fight in the first place.
