There is no point in fighting Lara if the winner is not going to get Canelo. There is no upside to fighting Lara and winning [without the winner getting Canelo]. Right now, Vanes and Lara - there is not much money involved for this fight. Vanes can have other fights and make a lot more money. But, if we get it in writing that we'll fight Canelo [next], then we'll fight Lara - and we already told Top Rank [about our position]

Canelo isn't gonna sign anything that says he has to fight a certain fighter next, he's the 2nd biggest draw in the division, he has many options (including Floyd) so he ain't signing shit. And Vanes says he can make more money fighting somebody not named Lara? Who? The Spinks/K9 winner?

I'm sure dealing with the WBC is frustrating but Vanes hasn't exactly been defeating world beaters in these eliminators...

interesting. i'm guessing he's working off the assumption that no way is arum going to agree to that, thereby allowing vanes to say "well we won't fight lara then". nice.
anyone reckon that arum will agree to have the winner of this face canelo? lara isn't looking for points wins any more so arum is unlikely to be able to have him robbed even. and arum can't really say only vanes can fight canelo if he's the winner, same doesn't apply for lara. can he?

As BoxingScene.com previously reported, the WBC has officially ordered a final eliminator between junior middleweights Erislandy Lara (16-1-1, 11KOs) and Vanes Martirosyan (32-0, 20KOs). The winner would become the mandatory challenger to the title currently held by Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (39-0-1, 29KOs), who defends his belt at the MGM Grand on May 5th against former three division champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley.
