Even the slightest insinuation that was anywhere near the same Mercer that fought Holyfield and Lewis is pretty off base.

Mercer was old and washed up in this fight with Wlad.

Because, Emanual Steward is great at teaching Wladimir how to be the best fighter. He is teaching Wladmir how to win and be prepared for every difficult situation. He is learning more and getting better. Wladimir would have easily knocked out Peter today the same way as five years ago if Peter did not have a great chin. I have only watched boxing for two years, but I have already learned how very difficult it is to knock out anyone with a chin. I dont think everyone truly realises how great Wladimir fought in his last fight. He beat a very difficult fighter, and everyone saw how he did this. I feel Wladimir will be champion.
Wlad has a mental problem - he gets lost when he gets hit. I personally don't think it's his chin that is the problem, I think it's his mentality that just shuts off when he gets hit. If he overcomes it, he will become the major force. Until then, he will be a great offensive boxer who can lose the fight at any time. Wlad is scared to come forward and let his hands go and he wasn't a few years ago. Compare this KD of Mercer to what hapenned in his fight with Peter in 12th round. Wlad caught Peter with just as good left hook but did not follow up. That's the problem with him today.

I agree, which is why I DID NOT insuate that in any capacity. I was simply stating that Mercer was a canvas that Wladmir painted a masterpiece upon. Not so much the opponent as it was the skills exhibited that made the fight something to watch.

lol, that's still dressing it up quite a bit.

Mercer was 40, very soft, and the entire fight amounted to a glorified session on the Heavy bag.

Old Mercer was a punching bag at that stage of his career.

Prime Mercer vs. Wlad would have looked a lot like Mercer's fight with Morrison.

Believe me, punch for punch, Morrison packed more TNT than did Wlad. He hit Mercer with some sickening shots, & Mercer took them very well.
This shook up the tense, fragile chinned/minded Morrison....

........ see where I'm going with this ?

The Duke landed some of the most beautiful left hooks you will ever see and Tommy had a great left hook, Mercer never flinched.

Mercer could punch and take a punch just about better then anyone but he was also at times a very very lazy fighter.

Looking back on Ray's career he is in my opinion one of the biggest waists of talent there ever was...watching him lollygag around against Holmes was an absolute joke.

So I would say he beats Wlad too but you never knew what Ray Mercer was going to show up?
