Comments Thread For: Cotto: This is The Right Moment To Fight Mayweather Jr.

Way back in June ’05, Miguel Cotto sat ringside in Atlantic City and watched Floyd Mayweather Jr. tear apart Arturo Gatti en route to a 6th round stoppage as well as a major title in a third weight class.

Both Cotto and Mayweather Jr. were unbeaten and under the Top Rank banner at the time, of course raising the question of when they will collide. The fight never came about and instead served as the beginning of the end of the relationship between Mayweather Jr. and Top Rank.

It is common knowledge that Bob Arum didn't want to make the fight then. He doesn't even want to make a fight with Mayweather now.

At least Cotto is not a mentally beaten fighter. Mayweather, at least in the past 6 or so years has been known to fight fighters coming off KO's and or the best wins of their careers. Cotto will be another one....

It's great to see that Cotto is feeling so confident, that can only help him. Floyd will be his hardest fight, imo, but he isn't going to make it easy for Floyd either.

Dougie Fischer who is a big Floyd hater actually thinks the same thing. He thinks that Cotto's style 5 years ago wouldve been tailor made for Floyd and he wouldve beat Cotto easily. He thinks now after working with Steward & now Diaz that his new style & boxing skill will be harder for Floyd to beat, e****ally at 154.

Watch how fast Dougie flip flops after the fight.

Cotto is a different person mentally
                  when he beat Margarito...
                  That was holding him back...

                  Everybody here has been, jumped
by more than one person before...
                  You feel cheated...
but eventually you find them alone
                  and whoop their ass...
You feel invincible cause you got
                  revenge...
                  and you a new man...
                  That's how Cotto feels...

Love it. It is the best time to fight Floyd. It's like the lotto; chances are slim but Cotto's put his bid in at the perfect time. A 35 year old, a Floyd who likes to stand and trade more, a Floyd with one foot in the jail cell...hey, you never know.
