  • Comments Thread For: Chad Dawson Still Believes "Hopkins Wanted To Quit!"

We welcomed former light heavyweight Champion Chad Dawson to the latest Edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show.

On April 28th in Atlantic City Dawson and Bernard Hopkins will square off in a rematch of their October fight that ended in a no-contest after Hopkins said that he couldn't continue after injuring his shoulder. Hopkins leaned on Dawson and Dawson retaliated by pushing Hopkins off of him causing him to hit the ground. At the time, Dawson accused Hopkins of faking the injury and said that he quit. 6 months have since passed and Dawson's feelings still haven't changed.

hopkins is good only in this generatin...I doubt overall he wouldn't make any1's all time top 10...cna't see him@160 beating SRR or Monzon...or@175 beating, ie: M.Spinks or Bob Foster, Ezzaerd Charles, Charley Burley,or Moore etc...

whats your point? those are the greatest of all time. no fighter in the last 20 years would beat a single one of the fighters you mentioned.

if theres one fighter who would do well in any era its hopkins bcuz of how well rounded he is, or atleast was in his prime. back in the day fighters could adapt and win a fight in several diffrent ways, only a few fighters today can do that and hopkins is one of them.

he didnt want to fight in the first place, he was contractually obliged. and i dont mean the contract he signed to fight dawson, he was forced into that in teh first place.

hopkins never wanted to fight chad, when he had to he convinced himself dawson was mentally weak and when he realized that wasnt the case he wanted to bail according to dawson. i agree with everything except the bailing out part. he did realize he was in over his head though.

he will be in over his head on the 28th too, i figure hes gonna tough it out and take his beating. maybe richardson pulls the plug at some point idk. hes not gonna quit though, hes not gonna go 12 rounds either. dawson about to end the legend, be the first man to truly defeat hopkins since roy jones in 94'.

I really do expect Hopkins to foul and cheat and try to provoke Dawson into doing the same thing, so the ref will DQ Chad.

can anybody think of a fighter that bores them more?
sad thing is he can be great here and there, but in terms of a package he is SO DULL
i mean this is the only thing he speaks about for 6 months, just shut up dawson if you have nothing to say.

                bad chad?
                how about
                what a bore daw?!

Chad has everything required to give Bernard a long and difficult night, all he needs to do is keep his activity high. He will be able to control the middle of the ring as he was doing in the first fight.

In no way would I be surprised if Bernard pulled another move just like he did in the first fight. At the very least I expect a lot of hit-and-hold moves, a low-blow and/or a headbutt or two.

I knew all along the cheater was trying to find a way out of the fight. Chad pushed him off because he jumped on his back. Chad did start to cup the leg which was a foul but he let it go before that actually made Bernard fall. No way Hopkins was hurt that bad IMO, he just wanted a way out.
