    Fighter of the year 2005!

I know we haven't reached the end yet but with a month to go who do you think should be awarded the honor?
If jermain Taylor beats Hopkins convincingly on Saturday he may be considered. I think Ricky Hatton is a strong contender too.

of course you think hatton deserves to be there... obvious... but well, back to the topic...

i would have to agree with you on taylor, if he beats hopkins again, he will surely be the fighter of the year... but i would like to throw jeff lacy into the mix... he had some decent fights this year... diego and JLC could also be contenders...

I'm thinking that Ring is going to give their rather prestigious award to Hatton. They love the guy, and they didn't score Jermain having a win over Bernard in the first fight so it would take a rather convincing win this time around to get them to select him, I think.

Ricky Hatton. Beat Kostya Tszyu and Carlos Maussa to unify the titles. Opened up allot of peoples eyes to people who doubted this fighter. There is no way that Taylor should get it for beating a 40 year old man twice, which he wont the second time.

              Too soon to call...

I voted for Hatton as I don't think Taylor will win the rematch

A racist remark in only the first reply? Nice, good stuff.

I actually think someone who managed to go halfway towards unifying a division in a single year (even if one of the fights was against Carlos Maussa) deserves serious consideration. Though I'm probably saying that because I'm from England, right?

What else have the other candidates done? Granted, if Taylor lays out Hopkins early then yeah he'd get it. But Tarver's filled his year by beating two men he'd already beaten (because his first "loss" to Johnson was a sympathy vote for a guy who'd been regularly screwed anyway, right?) and Castillo/Corralles both broke the rules to get victories.

If Hatton had a US passport I don't think this would even be a question. Quite sad really.

                    hmm

As much as I like Hatton, Taylor deserves it more (if he WINS). Two wins in the same year over a top 5 p4p guy who was formerly recognized as p4p number one definitely gets you to nod. If Hatton had rematched Tszyu or beat Floyd, Cotto, or Castillo after Tszyu then you'd have to give it to him. I'm sure Hatton will try to get one of them in the ring in 2006.
