Its like you said, it comes down to dollars. Big money corrupted the sport. Money corrupts and most of the time, its the fighters and fansI who pay for that corruption. Promoters and sanctioning bodies are poison.

Money is big in other sports too and most of them are nowhere near as corrupt as boxing.
