He tried way too hard early on to get a quick finish and it tired him out too much for the later rounds. He would have knocked this guy out, if he had fought at a more natural pace. He was visibly tired in the later rounds and didn't have the same fluid combos, speed or stamina, like he usually does.

couldn't have said it better, I will still support Rios but it's going to be hard after that. And I have to eat my words on at least 8 different threads about this fight where I claimed rios would just smash right thru abril :/I'm also a huge Rios fan. I gave him 2 rounds as well. Look and I'm not so hard with him like others here. I still think he can give anyone at 140 not named Bradley or Marquez a tough fight.
What pisses me off more though is who would want to fight Abril now? Why would anyone go after him now? If Pac, JMM, Rios, Cotto, Mayweather, if they don't get the decision it's OK, they still have the name value, or the crowd pleasing style, or the fan base, to get another shot, to get on TV again.
Guys like Abril, who are awkward, lengthy, not a crowd please style, don't have the promotional backing to get another shot, to get on TV again. Maybe if he had a belt people would go after him. But, he got robbed out of a belt. After working his ass off in camp, now maybe it will a long time before he gets another big shot is just wrong. Same thing with Campillo, who would want to fight him now? And, also to a lesser extent a Carlos Molina. You're literally snatching food of these guys table. The guys with the names, the style, the fan base they get robbed they will be OK. These guys are not.Comment
