Italian jr. welterweight Brunet Zamora (21-0-2, 10KOs), who fights EBU champ Denis Shafikov (28-0-1, 17KOs) later this spring, fought a tune-up last night in Fogliano Redipuglia - against unheralded Nicaraguan Santos Medrano (8-8) - and it almost backfired. Shafikov was floored in the first but got up to win a close, 77-76, decision after eight rounds. Shafikov vs. Zamora will reportedly go ahead May 31 in Ufa, Russia.
