I'm calling it right now, Gamboa is gonna be in the crowd, they gonna put the camera on him and they gonna boo him. If Rios wins, during the post fight interview Gamboa is gonna run into the ring and slap Rios too. Then we will be having the Rios-Gamboa fight.

NOPE, Gamboa will not be in the building that night. As for Rios not being anything special? Ok, he isnt the most gifted fighter speed wise, but few fighters have that kind of heart & focus in the ring, and heart & focus in boxing is very, very special.Comment

Good thing for Rios that he's no street fighter. He's a very solid pressure fighter who possesses good punching power, a great chin, great conditioning, and a heart of a lion. If Rios was a street fighter he would kick, bite, eye-gouge, etc. I, personally, haven't seen him do any of the above... Should be a good fight.Boxers beat Streetfighters using the skills they lack. Its obvious when I look at Rios that All you need to beat him is a solid and consistant jab and following up with good body, head hooks and uppercuts. Then when He pushes his way in, do what smart boxers do, clintch and continue to make fight at the best distance.
Guys like Marquez and Guerrero would not allow Rios to dictate the pace, they will press to make their fight and outclass Rios easily.Comment

Abril is one of those fighters from the Carlos Molina/Miguel Vazquez molds. He won't impress you on video because his talents aren't particularly spectacular, but his skills get him good results more times than not. He likes to clinch on the inside too (though not as much as Molina and Vazquez).
He's going to give Rios a tough fight.Comment

I'm telling you guys, DON'T be surprised when you're seeing Rios struggle badly with Abril, Abril is cut from the cloth of craftiness, and although he's a bit awkward looking in his style, he has under-appreciated and underrated skills.
The only reason people aren't really taking a good look at this fight is because it was supposed to be Gamboa in his position, which I understand, but with that being said, you'll all be surprised when you see Rios struggle to get his shots off, and Abril is slowing the pace down and takes control early.
I think Rios can win late, but with Abril's spoiling abilities I have a hunch that he'll spoil in the later rounds and win a somewhat close decision. But, I can't see the judges letting Abril have it, so expect to see a mild outcry of robbery post fight.Comment

Also, not that I believe in triangular theories, which I don't. If you look at Rios-Acosta, you'll see early on that Rios looked in danger of losing in the first five rounds, if not looking to possibly get stopped by Acosta. Rios TKO'd Acosta in the 10th. Abril in his last fight took on Acosta, dropped Acosta three times en route to a fairly dominant UD. My point here is, in this common opponent, although Rios got the KO against Acosta, Abril actually did better in the entire fight against Acosta. I think that tells you right there, that this isn't an easy fight for Rios in the least.Comment

Bunch of morons in this thread...
Rios is one of the best right now... Nothing special?
Haters are going to hate... I wont be surprised when he is in the top 5 p4p and people will still call him NOTHING.
A NOTHING doesn't knock out a Miguel Acosta or makes a Peterson quit.Comment

Great Boxer beat Top Pressure Fighters. Good or Okay Boxers Usually dont beat Great Pressure Fighters. Especially If they have no Pop which Abril does not have. So Easy Win For Rios Once Abril is forced to stand his ground.Comment
