No, he definitely did not respect Ortiz, he condoned himself well though.
He did though... he was ringside for Berto-Ortiz which was an epic fight, he knew Berto was the favorite and Ortiz won the upset in one of the fights of the year right in front of him... he definitely earned some respect from Floyd for that.

I agree its mostly that and Floyd is trying to build up Cotto to sell the fight. Lol at Floyd having respect for Ortiz while taking Cotto lightly. Dude treated Ortiz as some kid he was going to beat up and son not Cotto. Mayweather actually choked that ***** lol.

Yea.. even though Floyd was saying he doesn't want to talk about Pacquiao, it's a complete lie. Talking about Pacquaio will hype up the fight more and Floyd knows it.

During the Ortiz press conference. "Manny Pacquiao, you're next" -Floyd.

          Exactly.

People also need to remember he's more established now. He was still asserting himself from a promotional aspect against Oscar and Hatton...he doesn't need to do that anymore. Plus he's got a legit B-side this time around so he knows he doesn't really need to rely on the antics to sell the fight.

Plus I think there's a lot about Cotto, outside the ring, that he respects. Cotto never really went nuts bad mouthing Floyd, I think Floyd has a TON of respect for Cotto leaving Arum....plus the little things like the Cartier thing...Cotto's got some swag that I think Floyd kind of respects. I know that may sound trite but I think that's how Floyd's mind works.

When I kept reading and reading, I thought Floyd and Cotto were going to ride off into the sunset on a white horse or something

Floyd has always respected Cotto as a fighter. If you remember after the Hatton fight when Mayweather was asked about Cotto his reply was" I want to retire from boxing I dont want boxing to retire me." I think now after the Pac and Margarito fights Mayweather thinks the timing is right to fight Cotto.

True but with Pac you consistently get the same thing. He's always respectful towards his opponents. I don't know, I just got a weird vibe from Floyd/Cotto face off. Who knows, maybe 24/7 will change my opinion.

To a small degree though, also feel Floyd might have felt there was something off about Ortiz, may have been a little sympathetic towards him, but generally, the way Ortiz got in his face, mentioned his uncle multiple times...I don't believe he respected Victor.

That too, Cotto is the 3rd biggest draw so Floyd doesn't have to act the fool to sell this one.
