Comments Thread For: Photos: Thompson's Cancun Shocker Over Jorge Linares

This past Saturday night at the Oasis Hotel Complex in Cancun, Mexico - the boxing world witnessed a sure contender for "upset of the year" - as unknown Mexican hard-hitter Sergio Thompson (22-2, 20KOs) stopped "El Nino De Oro" Jorge Linares (31-3, 20KOs) in two rounds. Linares was returning for the first time since last October's TKO loss to Antonio DeMarco. Linares already had July rematch scheduled with WBC lightweight champion DeMarco in Los Angeles, but now Thompson is in line for the shot.

Thought the fight was stopped too early but damn, Linares can't defend anything right now.

Another question, why is the Mexican dude named Thompson?

Most likely grand father of him was an english slave, just like Breidis Prescott from Colombia.

GBP says the cut was so deep you could see the bone. They don't argue with the stoppage. They argue over the TKO results. They claim the cut was caused by a headbutt and not a punch.
