Its a lightning bolt, hence his nickname Lonnie Lightning Smith. He has the flag there cause of his style. I doubt he has any heritage rooting from Mexico.

He is nothing special though, I read in another thread he knocked out Linares in sparring but got knocked out as well by Linares in sparring?
