The heavyweight boxing champion of the world, hero of Ukraine, Vitali Klitschko ties his future with Ukraine!
At Vitali’s press conference, that took place on Friday, November 25, 2005, in Kiev, Vitali stated that he’s not going to return to professional sports as he achieved all his goals, and was at the top of his career before making way for other athletes to fight for the world title. “I always was proud that after my victories Ukrainian hymn was played, and all the stadium has covered in blue and yellow colors,” spoke Vitali. “Today I’m completely convinced that three weeks ago I made the right decision. I don’t want to look back, I’m full of energy to move forward, to find new goals and achieve them.”
Vitali Klitschko reaffirmed to continue social work, taking into account his long and extensive experience, including his work as special ambassador of UNESCO.
Answering journalists’ questions about him running for Kiev’s mayor spot, Vitali said:” I love my native Kiev, my future and future of my kids are connected with Kiev. If people from Kiev support my initiatives then I do not exclude a possibility of running for mayor’s post in March 2006 elections.”
He also didn’t exclude his participation in parliamentary elections also in March of 2006. “If ********ic parties are going to unite, I do not exclude an opportunity to take part in elections to the Supreme Rada of Ukraine.”
Vitali also expressed regret that a split took place within the ranks of “Orange Revolution Team,” and stated his hope for unification. “I refuse to understand why there was this artificial split. I am confident that Victor Yushchenko can unite our team. I would announce my candidature from the block of ********ic forces.”
According to Vitali, his brother and he posses wide personal contacts with known politicians and businessmen all over the world. And these contacts can be useful to Ukraine.
Vitali, as an experienced fighter has stated that he’s confident that Wladimir will win the world championship title during his next fight against either Chris Byrd, or Lamon Brewster, which most likely would take place in March of next year.
