    A Question about Amateur Boxing

I was wondering if 30 is too over the hill to start boxing as an amateur. I have absolutely no desire to go pro or anything but I have always enjoyed watching boxing and have boxed on a few occasions, mainly when I was in my teens so I have been hit (although we were only doing 3-3 minute rounds). I will be moving back to the US and then will try to find a gym but I am not sure if I should just look for sparring or if I can actually compete in amateur contests despite my age.

    Look forward to responses.

Your never too old dude. I'm almost 32 and thinking about turning pro, I was a good amateur in the 90's but haven't boxed for six years.

Thanks for the reply...I have flirted with the idea of training and doing one pro fight at some point in my life...but I thought I should probably see if I am any good first

You are allowed to box amatuer, in open tournaments and below, until the age of 34. After that time you would then be classified in the Masters division with the ABF. The masters division is for people over 34 years of age. They require that boxers competing against eachother have an age difference of no more than 10 years. I will check in the rule book, but I believe that these are the perameters.

I say go for it man, being old is not in years lived but by the youth in your heart. If you still got it, I say go straight for it. It is a great adventure with in the boxing as well as yourself.
