Pacquiao's a bad example, but I agree with your overall point. The hate for Alvarez comes from the title he was handed, even though his competition remains lower than fighters in his division that don't get that coddling at all.

            Both,

I feel that people give Canelo more of a pass to Chavez though. Because, one Chavez is with Top Rank and that is perceived to be the evil empire. While Canelo is with Golden Boy which is perceived as being the best thing for boxing.

And, also because of the last name. Chavez being son of a legend and following in your father footsteps isn't easy. They will always compare you to him. And, when you're not on the level the criticism becomes bigger and louder.

Ortiz didn't fight the best. Until he fought Mayweather and in return got humiliated and KO'd.

So Berto wasn't one of the best WW's? Im not an Ortiz fan but you can't knock on his opposition. Maidana, Berto, Peterson and Mayweather.

I think the big hype behind Canelo is cause of the way he looks being Mexican, his charisma and because, I think it was during his US debut, the commentators said Oscar said he was gonna turn Canelo into the next Golden Boy/ODLH.

When u have a situation like that, u can place the asterisk next to the W, if Floyd struggled to beat him...but Floyd OUTCLASSED him, wasnt even close...which takes away that asterisk...its like saying Floyd beat a bloated Marquez...the whoopin was so one sided, that it didnt matter if he was bloated or not
