Zaragoza was simply old as hell, and had been fighting since Morales literally couldnt wipe his own ass!!!
LITERALLY, and then Morales becomes a grown ass man and all of a sudden Zaragoza was a solid win and not SHOT?? The proof that he was done was that it was his last fight!!!!!
Look at Morales experience by the time he had fought Zaragoza. Why would they put him up against Zaragoza?? Because they knew they would win. He was done and then he immediately retired!!!!

Learn the sport first . Were gatti and ward ever the same ? Were corrales and castillo ever the same ? So how the **** do you expect morales to be the same after the barrera wars ? Use your brain idiot

Would it be a good excuse to say Floyd is past prime and is several divisions past his prime weight, if he loses to such an average fighter like Miguel Cotto?
Ali, you're comparing what happened to a 28 year old Morales to what happened to a 38 year old Ali[Whatever age he was, i'm sure it was late 30s]. And if you wanna talk about "Well look at the wars blah blah blah" Ali was hit hard by freaking Joe Frazier, George Foreman, etc.
Again, Leonard, a guy who was like 36 years old when he lost to Norris.
Ali and Leonard lost those fights at an age older than even the CURRENT Erik Morales.
I'm not even dissing Erik Morales, I said he's a very good fighter. The excuses though, the same "The wars he's been in". Man, these high numbered records mean nothing for more than the first half of their career. They pad up that record real nice.
All I know is Juan Manuel Marquez, who I believe is an actual great fighter. Even with his lack of defense, old age, wars he's been....would NOT lose to such average fighters like David Diaz or Zahir Raheem. Because he's actually GREAT.
Floyd's a greater fighter than Morales. However, he's only been boxing for 14 years, a year more than Morales, because of the two year break he took, and fights once a year. Morales had as many fights as Floyd now 7 or eight years or something like that into his career. If Floyd fought as often as Morales, and had multiple fights against other ATGs like Morales, he'd be showing it in the ring just like Morales eventually did.
And age is really irrelevant, there is so much more involved in when a fighter will slow down than age. Just saying "well x fighter couldn't have been shot at this age, because y fighter wasn't shot until five years after that" couldn't mean less to an argument over whether a fighter was past prime or shot.

Also not everyone ages the same, not everyone hits their prime at the same age, some fighters grow old in the ring differently. Morales was already a 12 yr veteran when he fought Raheem, Wouldn't say he was washed up but on his way there. He was pretty faded. was 2 weight-classes above his best weight, Raheem was at his best weight, at his prime and was a talented dude, and his style of a spoiler. JMM hasn't really faced that as an old fighter. Really the style that JMM had been facing as he has aged is a style he has had success in. Come forward types like a Diaz and Katsidis or to a lesser extent a Pac who he knows how to fight. JMM hasn't had to deal with an average fighter like Raheem, who not only has talent but also plays the spoiler alert in his advanced age.
Morales and JMM took different path to greatness. Morales was thrown to the wolves so to speak at a young age. At 19 facing Sanchez, 21 Zaragoza, and then never looked backed. Going to wars. Hence why his prime ended at a young age. While JMM was more perserved during his earlier days. JMM hadn't really had wars until I say 08 and forward. But, JMM is a great fighter to.
Not sure how much this counts but JMM turned down a fight with Morales in 05' turned down an immediate rematch with Pac after the first fight, turned down a fight with Hamed. Caught a very faded Barrera, Morales fought him in his prime.
They just took different career paths to achieve their greatness.
