James Braddock as an Elite? He's well known but elite he is not.

Old Tyson and Tua weren't elites either.

Tua was an elite heavyweight. I agree on mike though. Don't forget to vote!

Joe Louis fought every #1 contender for a full quarter of a century, except two when he was busy in the army, during WWII.

He fought every champion between Sharkey and Marciano.

He has the most consecutive, lineal title defenses ever. For any weight class.

How could Lennox compare at all?

I am going strictly on wins, not champions or title defenses.

i read everything but the line necessary for understanding the purpose of the thread. i am listening to lou dibella talk plenty sh#t on the radio.

                  that being said:
                  louis via knockout.

in this sense louis' resume isnt far beyond that of lewis

but louis was champion for 12 years, (gave up years in his prime, )
he lost only to hall of famers (marciano and charles very late in his career, and they are two of the best to ever lace them up. schmelling is a lesser force, but his win over louis is up there among the great HW wins.)

louis' resume is second only to ali in my eyes

I can see that, but you've left quite a few out of Louis' strong contenders (Farr, Bivins, McCoy) and Tyson doesn't belong in the elite category at that stage in his career. Tua is arguable.
