Comments Thread For: Team Pirog: Focused on May Bout, Then Geale on HBO

Kyril Pchelnikov, co-promoter for WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15KOs), says the boxer is fully focused on a May 1st defense in Russia. The opponent has not been secured, but Pchelnikov is looking for someone in the WBO's top ten. If everything goes as planned, then the focus will shift to finalize a deal for an August unification clash with IBF champion Daniel Geale (27-1, 15KOs) of Australia, which may be televised by American cable network HBO.

Let's what this guy Pirog has. I like the way he fights. It's been a while since I seen him fight. HBO took way to long to bring him back on the network.

let's hope Pirog doesn't slip on some ice and injury his shoulder before this fight.

i've got a feeling Pirog won't fight some one with a title for awhile. everyone avoids him, even though he never fought good competition.

Proksa, N'Jikam, and Andy Lee would be good bouts and set up nicely for Geale.

5 weeks for the fight and no opponent yet. I don't think he'll fight any known name.

Billi Facundo Godoy, Rafael Bejaran, Avtandil Khurtsidze, and Matt Korobov seem like the only options. I was thinking Khurtsidze is probably the most deserving since I thought he beat N'Jikam, but I rather not see Pirog go up against two middleweight midgets with the same style back to back.

I would bet on Godoy because Argentines will fight anybody and Godoy will be able to give Pirog some rounds before the inevitable KO
