Comments Thread For: Photos: Erik Morales Fails, Garcia on Weight, Kirkland, More

Erik Morales was over the limit for Saturday’s showdown with Danny Garcia (22-0, 14KOs), which headlines an HBO-televised doubleheader (10PM ET/PT) from Reliant Arena in Houston. As the scales read 142 lb. for what was supposed to be a 140 lb. title defense, Morales (52-7, 36KO) showed no desire to sweat off the remaining two pounds and opted to vacate the title. He is also forced to part with $50,000 of his purse, which will now to go to Garcia, who checked in at a chiseled 139.5 lb. for a bout that marks his first on HBO and for a title.

Damn Morales looks soft. It was bad enough against Maidana and Cano but he looks small and like he's carrying a lot of fat.

Wow obviously Morales isn't going to win any physical match against Garcia. Gonna take a lot of that ring experience to win this one.

The fact he put his shirt back on straight away says it all.

Morales looks like he just came off the couch. And the other two Mexicans, Molina and Castillo don't look to be in great shape either. If I were going strictly on who looks to be in better shape, i'd say Mexico goes 0-3 on Saturday. Garcia and Kirkland look in great shape and like they took training camp very serious.

angulo gassed out after the first round and it still took kirkland over 5 rounds to get a doc stoppage...

I thought Castillo was considered of retiring last year.
