Or could this be some type of strategy? I don't think 2 pounds is that hard to sweat off or at least try. I mean he pretty much said fk it and gave up belt + money.

I hope El Terrible wins so, we can see Matthysse - Soto fighting for the vacant title.

This is a shame really. As much as I want to give him a pass I cannot. A champion should no better.

Sucks, but Morales chose the right move. Especially at his age, going the extra mile to make weight won't do him any good.

Classless. :|... Jose Luis Castillo is one thing, but Morales? I expected more. Then again, he DID quit against Pac, which nobody likes to mention. -being a hater right now-

Morales was over the limit for Saturday’s showdown with Danny Garcia, which headlines an HBO-televised doubleheader (10PM ET/PT) from Reliant Arena in Houston. As the scales read 142 lb. for what was supposed to be a 140 lb. title defense, Morales (52-7, 36KO) showed no desire to sweat off the remaining two pounds and opted to vacate the title.

He is also forced to part with 10% of his purse. Half of that amount goes to the Texas Boxing Commission; the remaining half goes to Garcia, who checked in at a chiseled 139.5 lb. for a bout that marks his first on HBO and for a title.

I' think it's a good thing that Marales removes himself from a type od focal point by relinquishing the title.

Mentioning Castillo's overweight story, I thought you might have included the account of how one of his team was caught with his leg outstretched from the surrounding crowd, either in an attempt to interfere with the scales, or after having actually done so-can't recall, think it was the latter.
