By Gabriel F. Cordero
Nestor “Plomo” Espinosa the longtime trainer of ring legend Roberto “Mano de Piedra” Duran, has passed away in Panama at the age of 81. Espinosa started with Duran at eight years of age and was in his corner during each of Duran’s four world title victories in different weight categories. He began his career as a trainer in 1956 and worked with world champions Luis Ibarra, Wilfredo Gomez, Alfonso Lopez and Jorge Lujan among others, but will be remembered most for his 40 year association with Duran. Duran also used other trainers like Ray Arcel, Freddie Brown and others, but always, from his first fight until his last, Espinosa was in his corner.
