Lou D is just dumb azz, getting emotional about larry's comments. Mara and Lou calling out Pac before and then talking about "Protected" fighters. Lou, you are doing the same ****ing thing, protecting your fighter! But I hope Jr fights Mara and give you guys 15% but I doubt Floyd knows that he will win if decides to give Mara a shot. Call out Canelo, I am sure he will fight Mara and beat the crap out him and at 150 Pac will Knock Mara out.

I call BS Sergio has weighed above 170 multiple times at the mandatory 30 days out so lets stop with all this nonsense.Lou DiBella has fired back at HBO's veteran broadcaster Larry Merchant. In an earlier article on BoxingScene.com, Merchant told the website's Chris Robinson, that middleweight king Sergio Martinez should stop continuously chasing fights with boxers like Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Floyd Mayweather Jr. - and instead to do something great by moving up to 168-pounds to challenge super middleweight champions Andre Ward and Lucian Bute.

People forget that Martinez is only at 160 because that's the only place he was able to find a legit fight at with P.Will and then Pavlik. Martinez desperately wants a good fight at 154 but because nobody worth going back to his weight will do it, he stays. If anything, the 168 guys should be going down to him, not the other way around. Ward and Bute need to fight each other before they even consider Martinez.
Iloveboxing2. It's not protected. What you fail to realize is that Martinez challenged Pac because Pac fought for Martinez's title at 154..Martinez is basically saying "If you want to come into my division and fight for my title, then why don't you fight me?". Martinez has publicly said that Pac *IS* too small, but don't make excuses when you go into a certain weight class, that's all he's saying. In what delusional world do you get off on thinking Pac knocks out Martinez? Pac can't even knock out 147 pounders not called Hatton.... Look, I love Pac, huge fan..but really? I could see if Pac had a precedent but he doesn't. And Canelo? Are you serious? I guess Canelo beating up on Matthew Hatton gives you that idea... I don't mean to offend, but at least try to make it credible. At least hide the fact that you're a fanatic and say something like "Why doesn't he challenge Canelo, I think Canelo can give him a challenge" or something..
p4p, I do think Pac is possibly the better fighter than Martinez, but it's hard to say seeing as Pac has notoriously struggled with counter punching.
Also, big Cotto fan, but at this stage of his career, and at that weight class..he doesn't beat Martinez. It'd be a decent fight though, but I see that fight playing out similar to the way Floyd-Cotto will play out..except with Martinez stepping on the gas when it's time. I don't know why it's so hard to give ANYONE their props? You can still love your fighter without having to hate another. Hell, if you think Martinez is that bad, you should be hyping the hell out of him so that if your fighter loses, you don't look dumb... This reminds me of Floyd earlier in his career. Don't matter who he beat, he was "bad"
Btw, are people still under the impression Macklin was "dominating" Martinez at times? Martinez out landed him I think in every single round... :|... If anyone has them, post up the stats (which I might add are mostly irrelevant..but sometimes tell the story of a fight where it seems one guy was doing less, but was actually doing more).Last edited by NearHypnos; 03-18-2012, 09:41 PM.Comment

What do u expect from a guy who sits in the front row but doesn't know whose mouthpiece came out or what round it is? Sergio is already fighting bigger guys at Middleweight. Even there he is being ducked. Merchant wont b happy until Sergio beats the Klitchkos - both of them!Comment

WTF lou?
the weight difference on fight nite between martinez vs any of the top supermids will be way less than a martinez vs pac...come on lou, you cry about wanting to make a pac fight, but u get offended when someone brings up martinez vs any of the top super middleweights.Comment

ok so, sergios official weigh in was at 157, i bet his fight nite weight to be around 170...pac on the other hand has an official weigh in weight of around 143/144, and fight nite weight for pac, if anything, weights about 147, only a couple of weight added...whereas martinez would add another 10+ pound to his official weigh-in
so i dont see any reason to get offended by anyone suggesting that martinez challenge one of te top super middleweights when team martinez has been wanting to fight floyd or pac, WTF over?Comment

How's this? He might be the best right now if he fought there, but it's not like he proved much at 154 beyond the ability to knock Cintron out and then backpedal the rest of the rounds away. He won an interim belt against Bunema, had 1 defense, got promoted, moved up. Never defended the regular belt once.Eveyone hating on someone, all you have to see who he's been in the ring with and what the results are. Martinez beat the number 2 guy in the division. He was the best 154 pounder and is now the best 160 pounder. Nuff said. Leave the hate behind and respect what the man has done.Comment

sounds more like you're describing mayweather jrIf the fighters can make weight at the scales then this doesn't matter. You can't just criticize Lou as if he's the only liar in the sport. Bob Arum is literally and almost single handedly destroying the credibility of boxing yet Lou gets bashed for talking about weight? Margarito is bigger than Pac, Floyd AND Martinez (if I recall) yet Martinez is too big for them? Ward is big for his division...used to be a light heavy. Bute is big as well.
It doesn't matter if Pac walks around at 200 pounds, or Martinez at 200 but if the fighters themselves say they feel more comfortable at a certain weight, then there should be no discussion. We dont know how good they feel. Martinez come fight night and compared to almost all his opponents he seems smaller. He was biggest looking against Dzinziruk/Kelly but has since seemed to trim some muscle down, especially last night where he seemed thinner.
Personally, I think Lou is handling Martinez wrong. I dn't think Lou is completely wrong with what he said but there's a time and a place for everything and he's REALLY unprofessional at times. Martinez is doing his part, Lou isn't and he's mad that other promoters don't want to risk their fighters again him. That's what they do, build up the brand til you're a top commodity and the reward makes the risk worth it for a top earning fighter. Martinez and Macklin had a great atmosphere and there was a great crowd for Martinez but his "brand" is pretty much being made by word of mouth and results not because of Lou. Lou needs to bite the bullet and trust his fighter. Martinez said he'd be uncomfortable but would be willing to fight a 168 pounder with a name at a catch weight. Nobody expects him to fight Ward and Bute, everybody knows they are big but Lou doesn't let the idea stick around to cause interest. Let the commentators bring up Martinez when the 168 pounders fight, let other fans hear his name and look him up, see who this "p4p fighter Martinez" who's in talks to fight Ward and Bute is. Let him fught Direll, or Froch ir a winnable fight against a 168 pounder instead of chasing mr 180+ pounds in Chavez jr. Beating JR aint going to win him any new fans. Everybody who knows Chavez Jr kniws Martinez and knows Martinez is better. Martinez challenges everyone including Ward, everyone likes that..but then Lou cones out like an idiot and is like "**** this this and that this mother ****er this and dont listen to Martinez he aint fighting a 168 pounder, blah blah Chavez". He's having Martinez sit around waiting too much then it doesn't pan out and ends up having to take somebody else, like Macklin. Granted Macklin was considered by many among the top 3 middleweights, but Martinez didnt seem excited for it. He seemed bored all night like he was sparring, just scoring points all night and even when he knocked him down he just had this "ehh" expression and didn't seem to get excited.
Take a page out of Arum. If he doesn't get what he wants, next, move on. Keep your fighter busy.Comment
