Comments Thread For: Goossen Eyes D.C. For Klitschko vs. Thompson Rematch

Negotiations are still underway for the pending World heavyweight championship rematch between long-reigning lineal king Wladimir Klitschko and Tony Thompson. The two fought in July ’08, with Klitschko winning an 11th round stoppage in Germany, where he and older brother Vitali Klitschko have served for years as blockbuster attractions.

as i said before mandatories are usually 75\25 split on the purse but as usual the klitschko's try & change the rules in their favor. i don't think thompson will win but i hope they win the purse bid so the fight is in the US.

Well when you're responsible for 1% of the revenue, you should be so grateful to get 15%. . . Thompson is still going to make ten times more than he would elsewhere.

but GOD NO, PLEASE NOT Washington DC. . . We all saw what they did to AMIR KHAAAAN (and he;s knocking you out!) NO BOXING in DC again. . Boycott boxing from coming to that place. . . .

The fight should be made where it makes the most money, and that's in Germany, so...

yes DC is not the place i would want the fight but goosen wants to get his fighter a chance to fight at home. he will have to come up with a large purse bid but at the same time if he drives the price up then K2 will have to match it or better it. there is no doubt that K2 will match it & i'm almost certain this fight will be in germany. thompson wins either way & i don't mean in the ring. he either gets a fight at home with a healthy 7 digit paycheck or a substantially larger purse going to germany. i am a firm believer that the mandatory purse split should stay 75\25 regardless of who is the draw. if it's a voluntary defence then they can pay what they want. just don't like boxers changing the rules regardless of who it is.

Ooh good, Wlad is gonna gamble his belts in DC has he not been watching boxing and the judging lately? He needs the KO for sure. I think the K bros noticed they are being criticized and just wanna put on a show on American soil.
