Great quote from the article;
"I think the major difference is the fact
champions don't fight champions like they used
to. There are not enough superstars in the sport to keep it balanced."
Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Arguello, Chavez...even Oscar and Mosley. They were Legends of the Sport. They weren't hand picking opponents to preserve a "0". They weren't "all about the money"; that would take care of itself. They fought other Champions as Leonard said. They fought the best of the best, each in their primes, multiple times, win, lose, or draw. That's CREDIBLE! Those were the "real Super Fight"; they were "Events". Remember the anticipation of Leonard-Duran? Hagler-Hearns? Leonard-Hagler? Leonard-Hearns? Arguello-Pryor? Chavez-Meldrick Taylor? Oscar-Mosley? Oscar-Trinidad? Those were epic events; Sports stopped to watch those events! Those legends weren't concerned with their records. They wanted to see and prove they were the best in the world. Ali did they same thing. Ali said it best when asked before his first fight with Joe Frazier,"Ali, what if Frazier beats you; you're undefeated?!!?" Ali replied, "I'll be out on the streets the next morning screaming, 'NO MAN HAS EVER BEATEN ME TWICE!!!" Classic! And that's what made them legends, not about how much money they could hoard away. Even Pacquiao has waged war with the best of the best, win, lose, or draw. Barrera (2x), Morales (3x), Marquez (3x). That's CREDIBLE! Mayweather and the David Hayes, and even Roy Jones Jr, are a long ways from the level of greatness, fir ducking and hand picking their careers apart.
SRL is spot on in his comments, however there is something fishy going on with this article.
The headline says "SRL talks Haye-Chisora", but none of the quotes of SRL mention Chisora or the incident with Haye. Further, the article says SRL was talking at the launch of his new book, but that came out in June of 2011 and I seen it on the shelve myself last September, which makes me believe these are rehashed old quotes.
It doesnt say what city they were at or who interviewed him. Looks like old quotes pulled from last year to make it sound like he is talking about Haye Chisora
