Impressed with Hatton last night... eventually

I don't usually like Hatton that much for some reason. Maybe it's the fact that I don't find his style that asthetically pleasing, or I feel sorry for the guys he maims. There's also the slight rule infringements (the occasional holding, etc.) that dog his performances from time to time. The Zoo fight was dirty, last night's wasn't really, unless you're looking at Maussa. Maybe I just hate his ugly pasty face and his chav mum who looks like the sort of brassy old tart that gets in a fight every week down the bingo hall after being tanked up on Tia Marias. Maybe.

But he did good last night, after a fashion. I expected his performance to suffer due to the court case, and it was blatantly obvious to anyone who's watched the guy fight that it was a below-par showing and his mind was preoccupied.

But everyone's allowed an off night... Harris's off night resulted in him being KOed. Ricky's off night resulted in him laying out a man who'd never been stopped before (except on cuts) in a professional contest.

Triangular logic proves nothing, so even if Hatton wasn't distracted but still had problems solving the riddle of the rubber man it doesn't necessarily follow that it means Cotto would win a second unification fight.

Hatton again took considerable - not expansive, but considerable - shots while going in recklessly, proving that his chin really does seem to be as for real as the rest of him. He also took Maussa down with boxing skill, subtle moves that don't appear to be picked up on here in the main.

Like I say, it was a bad performance in many ways, but if your bad night is KOing a man in the ninth then what does a good night do?

Seeing this last night I'd be willing to stake a wager on him having enough to beat Mayweather... Cotto too, maybe. (I actually think he's got more chance against Floyd).

As much as it's not my favourite style of fighter, I do have to admit that Hatton does seem to be for real... and whether he's a "Brit" or not shouldn't even come into it... particularly when his "homer ref" lets Maussa hit him repeatedly below the belt without taking off a point. If that's a biased ref, I'd hate to see ones against him.

Whilst I obviously dont agree with comments about Hatton generally I do agree with your summing up of his performance and the fight as a whole.

A difficult opponent, difficult start with cuts, difficult build up with Warren issues but still he won each round and produced a great finish!

You just know if you went to his parent's house they'd have a brick fireplace with a gas fire and a collection of ceramic dogs on top of it, don't you?

xzworks, you want the fight? I'm giving the video to people for 10mil in points, but seeing as it's you I'll give you a half price deal, okay? 1.75gb.

Ricky laid the guy out last night, Cotto's was just cuts, right?

I'd say Hatton fought a better version of Maussa if anything. Maussa had had 14 fights (I think) when he fought Cotto and he was more confident and a World champ when he fought Hatton.

Especially for you, I'll do you round 9 on a smaller format... I'll make it on WMV or something. Give me a day though, it's stil processing at the moment.

Yeah, it is still a TKO, but I think being clocked clean is more impressive, don't you?
