  • Clip: Hatton KO's Maussa

In Sheffield, England, junior welterweight world champion Ricky Hatton added the WBA belt to the IBF version he already owned when he dominated former WBA champion Carlos Maussa until finally knocking the Colombian out with a devastating left hook in round nine. Hatton as usual employed non-stop aggression to wear his opponent down. Hatton received a cut over his left eye in round two but dealt with it well. Throughout the fight, Hatton had Maussa's head snapping around with left hooks and uppercuts, and Maussa never really had a chance to exploit his awkward style the way he did against Vivian Harris back in June when he captured the WBA title. The time of the stoppage was 1:10 of the ninth round.

That looks exactly like the powerpunch in the Nintendo game Punchout, a leaping KO punch.
