I thought the Silver Title was the WBC's replacement for interim belts. winning a Silver Title makes you mandatory challenger .... as both Saul Alvarez and Julio Chavez Jr picked up WBC Silver titles before becoming full champions.

to my understanding, Silver title is very similar to an interim belt.
