good 4 him a great boxer...the judge's same ramirez, 36 yrs ago that refed Salido/Lopez Sat past, he's 2 old to ref what I saw sat...I saw, not personally, the Cervantes bout & Benitez was magnificent, @ 17, not the same guy that lost to Leonard...Benitez has a mental illness of sorts, no concentration but always being honored, and "helped" by organizations & young boxers, a big help 2 his mom...

He needs the money more than the statue. Great tribute, but priorities should be change.

"El Radar" dude was a beast. He was the complete fighter. I remember watching him and thinking nobody is ever going to beat this guy and then he fought Leonard and it made you understand how great Leonard was.

He deserves it but it's true how sad it is that these great athletes of the past end up broke.

A very special person and very special fighter. One of my 10 favorite of all-time. Please google search for his name and donations because he does take donations to help his family take care of him.

Don't feel sorry for these old time greats man.

A lesser known fighter name Gerald Mccellen (I think, the guy who fought Nigel Benn and got comatose) actually said a great quote.

' dont feel sorry for boxers because in the ring we were lions, living as lions in that ring even for a year is greater then living as a sheep for a life time'

It's a quote few people cared about or remember because it is not from someone great like Ali but it's a good one. The thrills and experience they felt in that ring especially winning championships is something so unique I'm sure all of them will do it all over again with the same results to their health.

I don't know that he deserves it as much as some here think he does, they should have given him more affortable medical treatment as he needs that way more than a statue.....
