I just stopped reading when I read that bolded part. I gave you a chance Anorak.

It was different for two reasons: one, the picture quality was better than a stream. Two, it was UK commentary. As this was (as far as I'm aware) the first time Floyd had been seen on UK TV, a lot of the commentary was just factual, explaining where he'd been, who he'd fought, etc. And while it was complimentary, it was more laid-back and just informative rather than totally subjective.

So what struck me is just how much more competitive it was than it first appeared. Granted, Floyd was always a league above, but Mitchell's southpaw stance and not inconsiderable speed gave him problems. Look at the end of round two where Floyd's head is rocked back, or round five where Floyd doesn't actually do anything substantial until the last thirty seconds or so.

When I saw this fight last Saturday I thought it was another virtuoso performance from Mayweather. Seeing it again today it was just a decent performance against someone who was reasonably competitive... in fact, you could argue a case for saying Mitchell was ahead on points before the sixth. Seriously.

Watch it again without the sound. There are vast numbers of occasions where Floyd is missing, getting hit and doing nothing. But all the time this is happening Gray and Merchant are arguing over who gets the next suck on his ****. HBO are trying to build this guy into a superstar, and while only a fool would deny that he's talented, it's not the performance they would have you believe.

While Mitchell had his moments, I think all this talk is negated by the fact that Floyd was barely trying. Seriously, compare his energy level in this fight to the one with Gatti and it's pretty clear he could barely muster up enough enthusiasm to get into the ring. He was just looking to take him one with one shot and get out of there.

I'm not saying Floyd should have had this attitude. But that's the way I saw it.

Floyd fought Mitchell a lot like Tito faught Mayorga. It seemed like both fighters were saving their energy for big finishes in the latter parts of the early rounds.

Mitchell was losing the fight, but IMO gave a very good account of himself, made the fight competetive regardless of PBF's energy level or focus, and lastly, BEAT THE ****ING COUNT!
Now, like I said Mitchell was most likely going to lose anyway, but for Steele to stop it like that was bull**** plain and simple. And then HBO makes no mention of the premature stoppage whatsoever, and if you hadn't watched the fight and had to rely on their summary after the fight, you'd go away thinking that PBF had beat Mitchell half to death with one arm tied behind his back. Very irresponsible on the part of HBO, and Steele is just a dip****.

there is no argument that Mitchell was ahead on points in the sixth.

If he won all the rounds he wasn't knocked down in, 4, points wise that only puts him even.

I hear you complaining about the british bashing that takes place whihc I think in some cases you do have a some points However, when you make a post that has Sharmba Mitchell possibly edging out Floyd in last Saturdays fight I have to scratch my head and wonder how many times you had to watch that fight to come to that conclusion, how many times did you have to pause and slo mow your machine to score laned pucnhes for Sharmba, how many times did you have to fast forward thru the Floyd moments?

How could you have Mitchell edging Floyd? I dont care what you wrote above...tell it like it is Anorak-because your a lot better then the dip****s here at BS-tell it like it is.

Your on scoring restriction for this one, Mitchel edging Mayweather...that is as bias as I have read.
                  LOL.

No, seriously, read it again. I'm not saying he DID, I mean, he was CLEARLY behind, but all I'm saying is that some of those rounds were close that a half-blind judge could justifiably score them the other way. Almost.

Mayweather was leading the fight and dictating the pace all the way, but some rounds he was allowing Mitchell to clock up the points.

This isn't a Mayweather bash, btw - I do think he's excellent. It was more of an observation that without hearing Jim Gray swallowing him and Merchant doing the same but spitting it out afterwards it made it look a different fight.

That's what I said. He's never been shown in the UK before... apart from those five times when he has been. You just interrupted me before I got there, that's all.
