Comments Thread For: Darren Sutherland Inquest Drama: Maloney To Appear

PROMOTER Frank Maloney has been asked to attend the inquest into the death of Irish super middleweight Darren Sutherland, who died over two years ago. Maloney guided the professional career of the Dublin boxer after he won a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics until he discovered Sutherland, then 27-years-old, hanged at his Bromley, Kent, flat in September 2009.

Me too. I didn't know him personally but I was devastated when he died - he seemed like a lovely guy and he was undeniably talented and would've been a world champion in my opinion(personal problems aside). RIP 'the Dazzler'.

This article was quite uncomfortable to read. The whole situation is terrible and plain bizarre now that Maloney is being looked at as a cause. It has seemingly came out of the blue, over two years down the line.

Darren Sutherland though, I saw him fight quite a few times as an amateur in various tournaments and always believed he would make the switch very well into the paid ranks and establish himself as possibly the most sucessfull fighter of all the Olympians from the Beijing games of Ireland and GB.

The first and only time I met him properly was only a few weeks before he died, he was due to box on the undercard of a British title fight in my hometown, which of course was cancelled due to his death.

Good fighter and nice guy, RIP

The whole article is "uncomfortable". The first Doctor was not really identified, with no first name nor place of work, also the "Declan" notedseems straight out of a "who-dun-it". Instead of ghouling it up why didn't Mr. Clever just ask "Declan" about his accusations....??

And to solidify that Boxing Clever is really not so clever (which many past reports have amply suggested) there seems to be no such place as Dublin City University. The genuine medical degree granting universities are, College of Surgeons Dublin, National University otherwise known as University College Dublin, with branches in Cork and Galway (UCD), and now closed Apothecaries Hall. To mitigate this error, he may have meant the prestigious Trinity College, Dublin University (TCD) which was founded in 1592 in the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1 and which I myself attended-although not as far back as then.

            Mr. Clever's usual shoddy drivel.

Really? Solidify? No such place? Dublin City University is well known and established. There are over 24 million results for Dublin City University on Google.
