He needs a dramatic change, cuz whatever he's doing isn't working. His skill-set is limited, and he doesn't have the attributes to fight the way he wants to. KO's take something out of every fighter. If Juanma continues on this path, he will get permanently damaged.

It's his choice. He knows the risks.

I see guys 10x worse than JuanMa fight every day.

No one calls for their retirement even they though they lose a lot.

He was reaching with punches and throwing a lot of slapping punches. I would love to see Gamboa fight him. No wonder uncle bob didn't make that fight

Of course he doesn't HAVE to retire, but I believe he's gonna be the type of fighter that gets forced to retire. We'll continue to see him fight, but I don't think he'll be a major force in any division now. Unless he wakes the **** up and gets a new trainer.

I agree with this post, yes he lost but guys get knocked out all the time. I think when a fighter gets hyped up (especially on this board) posters get emotional attachments and over react. Fact is Juan Ma can still win some fights depending on the style of his opponent. A pressure fighter or a guy like Gamboa or Broner would knock him out again so I would suggest only stationary stiffs with no power.

So Salido .. a man with 11 losses in 52 fights, shouldn't retire, but Juanma, who clearly came in trying to win this fight the same way he lost it the last time ... should retire?

How long have you been a fan of boxing?

Juanma has 2 losses and you're calling for his retirement?

He may need a new trainer, but retirement after 2 losses in 33 fights?

You clearly are new to boxing. Maybe sports in general.
I agree with all of your post even the get a new trainer part but that will not help Juan Ma. A new trainer will not help this kids technique, defense or mentality. He has already proven he doesnt have any internal adaptability & I don't believe a new trainer could teach him that. This dude has never met a right hand he ddnt like. I say they just doing match him up with pressure fighters or counterpunchers. Its like Shane Mosley, he was much better with his father than with ****m Richardson, Cotto was much better with his uncle than anyone else.

                I disagree, Brother Khalil.

I think Juanma's real problem is that he tries to box like he's a Mexican.

****in' is not boxing. Juanma can box much better if he gets a trainer to keep him focused on what he's trying to accomplish.

Last night the kid tried to stand deliver in spots that he didn't have to. He got himself in trouble by trying to prove something. That's called fighting harder, not smarter.

Smart boxers attack weakness. Juanma did everything BUT attack weakness last night. Salido is a solid boxer. Great? No, but he's seasoned, crafty and durable enough to get the job done. Juanma tried to stand with a man whose only real chance is against a guy who swings wildly while standing in front of him.

Salido ain't got 11 losses because of crooked judges .. I can tell you that!

So the fight was really Juanma's to win or lose. He chose to fight the macho fight, and he paid the price.

I think a different trainer but more importantly a different mindset could do wonders for the kid's career. Not every boxer's jaw is going to be made of iron. That's what defense is for. Juanma wasn't interested in that last night.

Keep in mind, I'm not even a Juanma fan. I just happen to know that a wrong approach can be more detrimental than a lack of ability.

                Always a pleasure.

maybe take the rest of the year off, get a new trainer and rebuild himself as a fighter

I can't believe his defense is that bad though...he don't move his head at all, Antonio Tarver was screaming that the entire fight, but JuanMa just continued to stand straight up and Salido was landing Right and Left Hooks and Uppercuts

he is only 28 years old, he should be entering his PRIME as a fighter right now, but the lack of Defense makes him a DAMAGED 28 Year Old Fighter

Depends on how much money he has managed to make and where his heart is.
He isnt a great fighter and there are people out there who would flatten him. He has a boat load of technical issues but im a fan he is exciting. There are plenty of good fighters he can beat and plenty of money to be made its only a question of is he prepared to be a good fighter and not a great fighter as people where proclaiming he would be/was. Obviously health is an issue but i wouldnt be worried yet

Lopez looked like a punch drunk fighter. He went rubbery every time Salido landed clean. I noticed this in the very first round.
