  • Comments Thread For: Vitali's Next Challenger: David Haye is Not Deserving

Just when you thought heavyweight boxing could not get more unedifying, WBC champion Vitali Klitschko has apparently revealed that he would consider giving Londoner David Haye another shot at the heavyweight crown.

Who else if not Haye? At least most agree Haye as a chance. Dont get me wrong,

I'm no Haye fan but in purely boxing terms Haye is a better choice than Tony Thompson for example (who has been talked about recently again). Thompson vs Wlad was as much of a sham as Haye vs Wlad, Thompson didnt want to fight, folded and got KOed around rd10 if I remember rightly.

Bottom line is the HW division is a joke, and this clown (Haye) may realistically be the only fighter with a decent chance of beating the K bros! Sad but true!

      Nobody is deserving.

You might as well pick the most interesting challenger and that's probably Haye at this point. I'm not saying a Vitali-Haye fight interests me necessarily but it will receive more media attention than most other heavyweight fights.

We have to accept the fact that there's a dearth of viable challengers for the Klitschko brothers. See ancient Rahman and cruiserweight Huck receiving "title" opportunities against Povetkin. Or Mormeck.

Thompson DID want to fight, he was very active, outboxed Wlad with his lighter punches and showed a good defense too, he lasted 11 rounds.

Tony Thompson is 40 years old, terribly slow and has fought only once in over a year against similarly aged Maurice Harris who may or may not have been relevant 13 years ago. Can't see him as anything but cannon fodder for the Klitschko brothers.

Haye is one of the few fights left for Vitali that will generate some worldwide interest, not only because of their history together but because even though Haye performed badly (in terms of his offense) against Wladimir the theory is that he should be able to tag the slower Vitali easier than his little brother, which could (if it goes according to plan) work out to be a good heavyweight fight

Haye could get KO'd by Vitali which I'm sure some out there want to see, just as there are some who want to see if he can land some Hayemakers on Vitali and see what effect they have..

I'd like to see that fight happen..

He folded, simple as that. He may have been active for the first few rounds but he folded, he gave up and didnt want to fight from the mid way point. I remember his corner clearly trying to hype him up from the mid rounds but all they got was a vacant look in return.

Dont try and hype Thompson just to give Wlad more credabilty.

But I remember hearing something about Thompson being injured before the fight but still went into the bout when he shouldnt have really been there. If thats true he could put up a better fight this time but then again maybe not because of his inactivity and age now..

He showed a better performance than Wlad's last opponents, including Haye. IMO it was a good fight.
