I can't see how Wonjongkam can be considered for the HOF.
He has a good - above average resume at best.
I've been defending him on here for the last week or so with the idiots who haven't followed his career talking nonsense about him.
Hell, anyone I speak with regularly on here will tell you I've followed a large portion of Wonjongkam's career. It took him way too long to get on the P4P list and supported it 100% when he finally got on there.
But his resume is not even close to strong enough to be HOF. It's just not.
Inducting Wonjongkam because the likes of Mark Johnson have been inducted only furthers the problem. Then the inductees get weaker and weaker and weaker "Because he got in".
We have guys like Pone Kingpetch, Eddie Booker, Bert Lytell, Tiger Jones, etc the list goes on an on and on of genuine HOF calibur fighters who are yet to be inducted yet the HOF is being filled with fighters who have resume's that are really nothing special.
I'd love for every Hall of Fame for every sport I watch to go back and reconsider every single choice.Comment

That happens to every Hall of Fame that has ever existed. Eventually guys get in just because they were liked or waited a long time, and then other guys come up for consideration that you can't deny because other athletes got in, and the whole thing becomes a joke.

Why? Can you imagine telling guys who were in that, 'Hey, never mind, you weren't good enough?' It ain't that serious to willfully humiliate people. And starting over would never be an answer either. It's sort of the problem with the IBHOF. It's only 21 years old, so it's constantly playing catch up on yesterday and keep up with now. They should have inducted, en masse, the entire old Ring Mag Hall to start and we'd have a fresher slate.Comment

I agree. The answer is to keep informing voters about guys they've overlooked until they get in. The issue isn't really who is but who isn't so chipping away matters. In recent years, if overdue, Lloyd Marshall and Jung Koo Chang got their turn. Time takes care of much. Only three get in a year. It takes time. I used to be much more critical but I've talked to enough educated voters to see that there are just differing views on greatness.Comment

I think this is one of the most overrated fighters in history.

How so? Few if any rate him in the top ten all time at 112. He was, at his peak, on some but not all lower ends of P4P lists. This assessment considers him borderline for the Hall at best. Hard to call that overrated.Comment
